A Job Fair.. But am I Welcome?

July 18th, 2008 · No Comments

Last night in the paper I read that our local community was going to host a Job Fair at the library. It was being organized by a group of concerned citizens. With so much downsizing going on in our area the idea was to have employers available to discuss job opportunities that are available locally. The Community College was also going to be there to talk about schooling options.

I gave one of the organizers a call to find out the particulars. I must tell you his reaction to me wanting to be included in his job fair was very luke warm. When I told him I had an internet business, and that I taught people how to market online I could feel his knee jerk reaction even over the phone line. Not wanting him to know I could feel his concern I went onto ask, “what was the criteria for be able to be included at the fair?” He asked if it was a paid position? Well…I must tell you I had to snicker at that question. To me it is a very well paid position. But that is because I have studied, attended classes, went to trainings all of which were available to me online, in my own home using my computer.

I told him it was an opportunity for anyone who wanted to earn an income working from home. I was not going to tell anyone that would make $10,000 by next Friday. I was going to teach them how to market online. Still getting the negative feeling over the phone, I continued, “to me this is the greatest business in the world. I work from home at my own pace. I get out of my business what I put in. I don’t have to get up at a certain time, I don’t have to punch a clock I don’t have to drop the kids at day care and I don’t have to spend money on gas commuting. Everything I do is online. All of the classes and trainings that I have access to are just a couple of mouse clicks away. What kind of a business could possibly be better than that?”

He went on to ask, “yeah but how much is this training you offer?” I told him there were different levels but you could get into the training for as little as $10.97 a month. I gave him the link to my web site and told him to check it out and be sure and send for the Free Report.

He told me he had to speak to the other organizer about this but he would be getting back to me.  I am still waiting. I am wondering if he asked the  folks from the Community College who were coming to the Job Fair how much they charged for that class or that course. I also wondered if passing those classes meant the guarantee of a good income.

I don’t think I am welcome at that Job Fair but take a look at what would be available to those who attended.

Books Books and More Books

July 15th, 2008 · No Comments

In a prior post I told you that I have a whole collection of cookbooks. Well not only do I collect cookbooks but I love to collect books period. I have found a wonderful well laid out site that lets me add to my collection at extremely reasonable prices.

They offer every category you can imagine. You’ll never guess which category I go to first. Well, maybe you can.

Is A Reverse Mortgage Right for You?

July 15th, 2008 · No Comments

I see ads all of the time on TV for a reverse mortgage. With so many seniors living on fixed incomes this really is a novel idea. Seniors are able to continue to live in their homes without paying anymore towards their mortgage. This enables them to free up in many cases much needed money.

Senior lending or reverse mortgages have become quite popular and although they are not right for everyone, many seniors will find it is a great solution to the  financial pinch that many find themselves in. Senior financial help maybe available in your local community and I encourage all to check what is available locally. But another great educational resource for seniors to get a good overview about how a reverse mortgage actually works is available at the Senior Lending Network website.

My Dad Called!!!!

July 15th, 2008 · No Comments

My Mom and Dad just got back from a 10 day trip to the Calgary Stampede. They had a great time and said everything was wonderful. But when my Dad called he said he just had to tell me how impressed he was with those tickets. Now he of course was referring to the airline tickets that I had made arrangements for them to purchase last January.

I booked their flight using Expedia. They were so happy with the arrangements that I made not only did I save them over $200.00 but I found better times for them to travel. Since January my Dad has asked repeatedly about those tickets. I think because he didn’t have an actual ticket that he was able to hold in his hands we was a bit worried. I kept telling him that the confirmation number was his ticket.

Due to a plan delay they had to rush to catch their connecting flight and when they arrived at the counter to check in there were greeted by the ticket people with…” You must be the Smith’s, we are waiting for you.” As soon as they boarded the plane took off. They are already planning another trip and once again I’ll be looking on Expedia to make the arrangements.

I am sure next time my Dad won’t be worried about just holding a confirmation number and not an actual ticket.

I Love Cook Books

July 15th, 2008 · No Comments

Now I am not going to tell you that I am a great cook. Heck I am not even going to tell you that I could be called a “cook”. But I will tell you that I love cook books. I love everything about them. I like to look at the pictures, I like to read what goes into making the different recipes. I even think of what pan I would prepare it in and what plate I would serve it on. Needless to say I have a whole collection of cook books, everything from soup to nuts as they say.

I will admit I still pull out the book that I had as a child when my mother was a 4-H leader. That was a great time. I was attending Wilson Elementary School out in the country of Alpena, Michigan. A bunch of us kids met in the school cafeteria and had our cooking class.

I think my mother was ahead of her time. We are talking about 40 years ago. She taught things kids could make on their own. We are talking before microwaves and we are also talking before anyone had ever heard the term latch-key kid.

We would walk into a spotless elementary school kitchen and that is the way we left it, spotless. We were taught how to make quick and healthy items to eat. It was after Scholl and in school so we were safe. and we got to eat what we made, how cool is that? Cleanup was an important part of our learning about cooking too but with all of us pitching in that didn’t take long.

By the way, my molasses crinkle cookies won first prize in the 4-H cookie contest that year for my age group. I still make those cookies. The recipe comes from that kids cook book that sites proudly among my mass cookbook collection.

I have just come across away to create my own cookbook. It too is quite the concept.
Tastebook. Make a personal cookbook.

Seeing is Believing

July 12th, 2008 · No Comments

Is it true that seeing is believing?  Or is it more accurate to say that believing is seeing?  Does our preconceived beliefs determine our outcomes?

In the home business industry, and especially in internet marketing, we keep hearing about the fortunes that are there to be made.  We hear, and possibly experienced first hand, about the scam artists and rip offs out there that are designed to prey on our desire to strike it rich online.

What does it really take to make it in a home based business.  Is working from home just a fantasy for the majority of people?  Does anyone who works from home really get rich?

Are you struggling to make money from home?….  could you be your own worst enemy?  Are you the cause for your own failure to turn your internet marketing business into a total cash cow?

What did you do today that caused a ripple effect?

July 11th, 2008 · No Comments

I read an article about how simple acts can have tremendous rippling effects. I would like to share it with you.:

It is called…

                                                          LEAVING GREAT LEGACIES
                                                                  by Steve Goodier

Edwin Hubbel Chapin once said, “Every action of our lives touches on some chord that will vibrate in eternity.” That is the definition of a legacy. Wouldn’t you love to do something that might strike a beautiful chord that will “vibrate in eternity”?

I’ve discovered this about legacies - generous people leave great legacies. I read about a couple in Canada who stopped to help a motorist who had run out of gasoline. It was a regular occurrence in their part of rural Canada. After they got him on his way, they bought
a new fuel can, scratched their initials on it, filled it with petrol and stored it in the trunk of their car.

A few months later they again stopped to assist a stranded motorist. But this time they GAVE him their gas can and told him to fill it up, keep it with him and pass it along to the next motorist he sees who has run out of fuel.

Though they never expected to see their can again, in a couple of years they spotted it being passed along to a grateful motorist on the road. They recognized it several more times over the years, and each time they asked its owner where it had come from. They ascertained that the can had traveled across the continent at least two times!

They never intended to leave a legacy. When they bought the fuel can they never dreamed that their action might strike chords that could vibrate in eternity. But that container is probably still traveling across Canada in the back of somebody’s vehicle!

I wonder how many stranded motorists have been rescued by the generosity of complete strangers who stopped to help? And how many have then taken the container, re-filled it, and finally passed it along to some other poor soul? Good will generated by a humble can of
fuel has no doubt been multiplied many times in countless ways, striking beautiful chords that vibrate forever.

It’s true - generous people leave great legacies. Even that small piece of yourself you freely give away may thrive in surprising ways throughout eternity.

After I read it I thought of an incident that happened several years ago. My husband has a vending company. One very HOT day I had to help him fill vending machines. So that meant my van was loaded with pop chips and candy. Before I had gotten to my first stop I had a tire blowout on a very busy expressway near Ann Arbor, Michigan. (Go Blue)

Needless to say I was a damsel in distress. I got out the manual of how to change the tire and getting the spare out of its stored location proved to be my first obstacle. Standing by the side of the very busy road with cars traveling within inches of me going 90 miles an hour, I was well out of my comfort zone.

A white van pulled up behind me an a nice young gentleman got out and offered to help. He put on my spare tire as if he had done it many times in the past. He would not take money for his trouble nor would he accept my offer of junk food. he simply said, Please just have your husband return the favor one day to someone else.”

As he drove away I noted that it was an 84 Lumber Company van. His sewn in name tag told me his name was “Dennis”. When I got home I made a few phone calls and got the address of the 84 Lumber Company in Ann Arbor, where “Dennis” worked.

At that time I was a volunteer for our local cancer organization so I made a donation to it in his honor. Several days later I went into the cancer office and the ladies informed me that I had had a gentleman call and ask for me. They told him I volunteered there
and assured him that any message he left would get to me.

He proceeded to tell the ladies that I had made a donation in his honor simply for changing my tire. He went onto explain that my gesture was especially heart felt to him because he himself was a cancer survivor.

In writing this now many years later it still brings a tear to my eye of how a simple act of kindness can generate so much good.

Crazy Fox Home Business

June 25th, 2008 · 2 Comments

No, it is not us.  We are not affiliated with the television commercials, or the business opportunity.  We noticed that some of the traffic we get comes from people searching on whether or not the Crazy Fox Home Business Opportunity is the real deal, and what company it represents.

If you’re searching and you landed here, I can answer one of those questions.  Herbalife is who is represented on the television commercials.  Is it the real deal?  Herbalife has been around forever.  The bottom line is it doesn’t matter what the company, product or service is selling.  If you want to make it in a home business on the internet, you need to learn how to market.  What you market is truly a matter of finding something you are passionate about.  If you love Herbalife - you can make a great business out of it.

My best advice is never ever start a business because the ads say you will make a lot of money doing it.  Start a business you are passionate about.  My next best advice is learn how to market FIRST.  And thirdly, don’t spend a bunch of money buying ebooks and how to manuals.  The best training out there is actually free.
